RoleMatch is for strangers and friends writing stories together. These rules keep it fun and safe. They apply to messages, premises, roles, backstories, characters, usernames and uploads.
Write within the scene's intensity
Every scene has an intensity that nobody in it has refused:
- No romance: no romance at all: adventure, mystery, friendship.
- Romantic: tension, flirting, maybe a kiss. Nothing explicit.
- Closed door: romance can go further, but the door closes: nothing intimate is shown. Adults only.
- Spicy: steamy and suggestive, for adults only. The AI narrator lets intimate moments fade to black (see Sensitive content and adult themes).
Also respect every player's excluded tags. If a scene is heading somewhere a co-player didn't agree to, steer away.
Consent and out-of-character
- Use OOC messages to check in with other players. If someone asks to change direction, do it.
- Anyone can skip a live scene. Skipping is never penalised.
- Never control or describe another player's character's actions or feelings without their agreement.
Never allowed
- Any sexual or sexualised content involving minors, or characters presented as minors, in any context. We report this to the authorities.
- Sexual content without the consent of every player in the scene, and any sexual content in a chat where not every participant has made the in-app 18+ declaration.
- Intimate images of real people shared without their consent, including “revenge porn” and sexual deepfakes, and sexual images sent to anyone who has not opted in to receive them.
- Harassment, threats, bullying or insults directed at real people, including other players, whether in character or OOC.
- Hate speech and hateful images against people for who they are, and content that glorifies real-world violence, terrorism or extremist groups.
- Content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
- Real images of violence or gore shared to shock, glorify or harass, and any graphic image outside the rules for sensitive content below.
- Personal information: addresses, phone numbers, social handles, photos of real people, or attempts to move players off the app.
- Spam, advertising, scams, impersonation and fake accounts.
- Uploads you do not have the rights to (see the Content & Copyright Policy).
Fiction can be dark: conflict, danger, mystery, horror and villains are welcome, always within the intensity of the scene and the players' excluded tags.
Sensitive content and adult themes
Some things are fine between consenting adults and not for everyone else. This is how RoleMatch keeps both true.
- Sensitive photos. Photos that our automatic check classifies as nudity, sexual content or graphic violence are “sensitive”. They can be sent only in a kept private chat where every participant has made the in-app 18+ declaration and has turned on “Receive sensitive content” in Settings. In any other chat they cannot be sent.
- Always blurred. Sensitive photos always arrive blurred, labelled “Sensitive content · tap to view”. Each person chooses whether to look, and can hide the photo again.
- Images everyone sees. Covers, backgrounds, avatars, character photos and stickers are visible to everyone, so they must never be sensitive.
- Written stories between adults. When everyone in a chat has made the in-app 18+ declaration, the written story is free to explore adult themes, always with every player's consent and within their excluded tags. The AI narrator follows the players' lead, but writes intimate moments with a fade to black rather than in explicit detail. In these chats the only content removed automatically is sexual content involving minors; anything else that breaks these guidelines can be reported.
- When someone has not made the 18+ declaration. RoleMatch is for adults only; the in-app 18+ declaration is an extra safeguard on top of that. If anyone in the chat has not made it, adult content is kept out automatically: sexual content, threats and hate are removed.
- Never allowed, anywhere, whatever anyone's settings: sexual content involving minors or characters presented as minors (zero tolerance, reported to the authorities); hateful images; intimate images of real people shared without their consent, including “revenge porn” and deepfakes; sexual images sent to someone who has not opted in.
Every message and every person can be reported or blocked. Our moderators review reports and can remove content and ban accounts.
AI players
Characters labelled "AI" are written by our AI. Treat them like any other character; report them if they produce something inappropriate.
Reporting and blocking
Long-press a player's message to report or block them. Reports are confidential: the reported player is not told who reported them. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
Enforcement
Depending on how serious and how frequent the violation is, we may remove the content, warn you, restrict features, suspend your account temporarily, or ban it permanently. Content involving the sexual exploitation of minors leads to an immediate permanent ban and a report to the authorities. We look at patterns too, such as repeatedly skipping scenes to harass players. You can ask us to review any decision.
