How uploads work in RoleMatch, and how rights holders and anyone else can ask us to remove illegal content.
Uploading music and images
- In a kept story you can upload an audio file (MP3, M4A, AAC or WAV, up to 15 MB) to play as ambience, or an image (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 6 MB) as the background. Everyone in the story sees and hears them.
- Upload only content you created or have the right to share. Before uploading audio you confirm that you own it or have permission to use it in this way. Commercial music usually cannot be shared without a licence.
- Images are checked automatically by an AI classifier (OpenAI) before they appear. Covers, backgrounds, avatars, character photos and stickers are visible to everyone, so we reject nudity, sexual content, gore, hate symbols, photos of private individuals and anything involving minors.
- You are responsible for your uploads. We can remove any upload that breaks these rules, and suspend accounts that repeatedly do.
- The built-in RoleMatch music and scenes are provided for use inside the app only.
Sensitive content and adult themes
Photos sent in a chat go through the same automated check before they are shared with anyone. A photo that the classifier identifies as nudity, sexual content or graphic violence is treated as sensitive content:
- It can be sent only in a kept private chat where every participant has made the in-app 18+ declaration and has turned on “Receive sensitive content” in Settings. In any other chat the upload is rejected and nobody receives it.
- It is always delivered blurred, labelled “Sensitive content · tap to view”. Each participant decides whether to view it and can hide it again.
- Covers, backgrounds, avatars, character photos and stickers are public within the app and are never allowed to be sensitive.
Written text follows the Community Guidelines: when every participant in a chat has made the in-app 18+ declaration, stories may explore adult themes, and the AI narrator writes intimate moments with a fade to black rather than explicit detail. In those chats only sexual content involving minors is removed automatically. RoleMatch is for adults only, and this declaration is an extra safeguard: when anyone in the chat has not made it, adult content is kept out automatically and sexual content, threats and hate are removed.
Whatever the settings, the following are never allowed and are removed, with the account banned:
- sexual content involving minors, or characters presented as minors, in any form. We have zero tolerance and report it to the competent authorities (see the Child Safety Standards);
- hateful images;
- non-consensual intimate images of real people, including “revenge porn” and sexual deepfakes;
- sexual images sent to someone who has not opted in to receive them.
Automated classification can make mistakes in both directions. Every message and every person can be reported or blocked in the app; our moderators review reports and can remove content and suspend or ban accounts.
Report illegal content (notice and action)
Anyone, not only players, can report content they believe is illegal, including copyright infringement, under the EU Digital Services Act. Players can report directly in the app. Otherwise, send a notice to [email protected] including:
- an explanation of why you believe the content is illegal;
- where the content is (the story title, the player's username, the date and time, or a screenshot);
- your name and email address (not required for reports of child sexual abuse material);
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the information in the notice is accurate and complete;
- for copyright claims: the work you own, and confirmation that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
We confirm receipt, decide promptly and tell you what we decided and whether you can challenge it. We tell the player who posted the content why it was removed, and they can ask for a review or submit a counter-notice explaining why the content is lawful. Accounts that repeatedly infringe copyright are terminated.
Misuse of reports
We may stop processing reports from people who frequently submit reports that are clearly unfounded.
